Event & Programme

The foot orienteering World Championships take place every year. The programme of the includes four medal events for both women and men: Sprint, Middle Distance, Long Distance and Relay.

The inaugural World Championships were organized in Fiskars, Finland, in 1966. Back then, the World Championships took place only every other year with a programme consisting of Long Distance and relay for both women and men.

In 1991, middle distance was introduced to the World Championships programme. The latest new-comer into the programme has been Sprint, which debuted in World Championships in 2001. From 2003 on, the World Championships in foot orienteering have taken place every year.

Programme

The World Championships will be organized in July 6-14, 2013. There will be total of 4 medal event days plus 2 qualification race days. That, together with the Trail-O Championships and Kainuu Orienteering Week will guarantee action-packed seven days in Vuokatti area.
